The tour began in Bergen county N.J. in the summer of ’73 when most of your friends where at the local corner or town pool, my old man’s best friend owned a body shop.(”MISTAKE #1”.. I should have gone to the pool that day…) but I was kidnap into chaos, till to this day! ‘Course for every snivel, there is a solution lurking out there, somewhere between the drainage ditch and Motel 6, paint fumes! Hang around any bump & body shop, custom paint studio, or fender patch emporium and you’ll get a legal noseful that’ll send you into orbit at least as high as Skylab and maybe as far as Voyager. Whether it’s methyl isobutyl, (that’s the name of a solvent not a stripper at the local topless joint), or urethane enamel overspray, there’s enough friendly spirits floating in the spray booth to make scooter Picasso’s of us all. Another stop on the tour, thanks again to my old man, was the ’73 E-Town Summer Nationals. I was hooked and sucked in by looking at these paint jobs; Flames, Kandies, Pearls, Flakes… thought to my self “I can do this” (mistake #2). The 80’s came around I rolled up to Lake George, N.Y. and started hanging out with Bob Gerdes of Circus Custom Paint. Painting funny cars and hanging by his fridge to get a cool one and some pickled eggs (mistake#3). Now here we are in the Orange, N.J. teaming up with one of the countries top airbrush artist Jonathan Pantaleon… Stop in some day and see the show… |
